Dr David Black asked:

How is it that some people appear to stay younger than others? Are they just lucky or is it a reflection of the work and habits they implemented, or invested, in themselves. I’m not one to believe in luck, rather I like to think that we reap what we harvest. Why not harvest better years from your body and stay younger than those who choose not to bother?

How many times do we meet people who are young in calendar years but whose attitude makes them appear much older. We all have heard it said of someone that they were born old and if they were not, they quickly became old before they turned thirty!

Age is really an attitude of mind, rather than a number on a piece of paper. There is a wonderful child like quality in every one that appreciates a beautiful rainbow or a colourful butterfly. What a shame it is when this quality gives over to materialistic attitudes and worries about our daily needs. Let us define some goals that will help us stay young, both in body and in spirit.

Keep fit! Embark on a lifetime of gentle exercise and keep to the rules that you set for yourself. You know that exercise produces chemicals that help fight disease, keep you relaxed and feeling better. Exercise is the best thing you can do to ward off depression, maintain weight and keep you immunity kicking along.

Have a regular pattern of sleep. This is essential for replenishing your store of energy. Keep to a sensible weight by eating correctly. As you get older, reduce the amount of food that you eat as you will be needing less to maintain a lower metabolic rate.

Avoid alcohol except in small quantities. It ages one rapidly. Avoid smoking completely.

The nicotine hardens the arteries. Drink 6 glasses of water each day. This will help flush out toxins from the body. Did you know that drinking water more often can help keep weight down?

Dress younger than you are. Nothing makes us look and feel older than we are if we wear “old peoples’ clothes”. The fitter you keep, the younger you’ll feel like dressing.

Think young. By this I mean that we must involve ourselves in the language and manners of the younger generation. We will then be able to socialise with people younger than ourselves and not feel that we are slipping behind in the generational gap.

When conversing with people older or younger than ourselves do not act in a condescending manner to them but rather treat them exactly as our equals in age. We will then not give the impression of being out of sync with time.

Be involved in a wide range of activities that involves meeting with people of all age groups.

Be as comfortable with talking to a very old person as with a very young person and encourage them to call you by your first name.

Do not be overly formal. This will place you clearly in a time frame that you do not want to be in. This includes using phrases that are clearly from the past and not in current usage by younger people.

Have regular medical and chiropractic check ups to ensure that your body is able to function at its peak efficiency. It will function well with regular service, just like your car. Your chiropractor can talk to you about nutrition, fitness, stretching and food supplements. Use your chiropractor as a resource to help you stay young, feel young and get the best out of your engine – it only has to keep you running for around 90 years!

peterhutch asked:

Anyone want to stay young in any age. Regular exercise tones your body muscles, reduce body fat, fight disease and relieve depression, tension and stress. Eat well and exercise regularly and within a few months and you will be able to see some results. Your muscles will be stronger, your joints and mobility improve, and your heart will be stronger, pumping more blood with less strain on your body. Avoide cigarettes because cigarettes cause serious damage to your body and is a major threat to healthy skin. It robs your skin of oxygen and produces free radical which leads to premature aging. The most known side effect of cigarettes is of course cancer.

An 81-year-old gentleman of our acquaintance, who looks at least 15 younger than he is, an active theatre director and actor, said, “Oh, yes!” and rattled off what was, in essence, my chicken broth recipe. You put the chicken carcass in a pot, add a tablespoon of vinegar, some salt, whatever vegetables aren’t quite fit to eat but are too good to throw away, and cover it with water. Simmer until the cartilage around the leg bones is gone, daddy, gone. Strain and refrigerate or freeze.

For middle aged people: You can go for a walk each and every morning. Walking is good for your heart and your lungs. Why your lungs? Well the fresh air that you breathe in the morning actually has a positive effect on your internal system – this does not apply to industrial city inhibiters… sorry, but you know why.

Reduce stress:

We can’t completely eliminate stress from our lives, but we can learn healthier responses to it. We all can try to minimise stress to live longer and better. You can do it in many ways. Like control clutter in your home. Get more realistic about how much you take on each day. Try eliminating just a few items from your to-do list. Regular meditation reduces stress and also boosts the immune system.

Drink red wine. Just one or two glasses a day will do it. (I could do that with either hand and hardly break a sweat).

Eat dark chocolate. Not only will it give you an energy boost but it will lower your blood pressure and your cholesterol. (that’s why the women in the picture are jumping for joy)

Have ***. Yes it is exercise, more so for some than others. Many other benefits. (thats why the men were jumping for joy, you just can’t see them because the jumped right out of the picture)

The best thing to be youthful is bringing together all the senses – Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste and Touch. Direct the mind for improving each of them. Use them perfectly and try to improve each of them by eating healthy food/diet and practicing some karma (such as Yoga, meditation and various other sensible exercises). One can also go for some massages with potent herbs in order to keep them powerful.

Balance. Balance deteriorates with age, but it can be trained and maintained. Practicing balance by doing yoga or dancing or even standing on one leg in the kitchen is great neuromuscular exercise. In other words it keeps the body and brain in touch. If you have balance you reduce your chances of falling and testing your bones for strength.

Think. Use your brain to learn, do crossword puzzles, math problems or simply read stimulating material. If you don’t use it, you lose it. Research has consistently shown that older adults who are regularly stimulating their brains are less prone to mental deterioration.

The most known side effect of cigarettes is of course cancer.

Love Your Locks

Find a happy middle. Avoid wearing hair too long. As you age it becomes less flattering. Avoid wearing it too short. A severe short hair cut can also tack on the years. Have bangs! Bangs soften the face and are flattering on anyone. Avoid blunt cut bangs. Try side swept or long layered bangs.

Breathe

Exhaling relieves stress, clears the lungs, increases mental focus and contracts the abdomen. You can actually tone the belly by learning to breathe properly.

For middle aged people: You can go for a walk each and every morning. Walking is good for your heart and your lungs. Why your lungs? Well the fresh air that you breathe in the morning actually has a positive effect on your internal system – this does not apply to industrial city inhibiters… sorry, but you know why.

For young people who simply don’t want to move their arses: You need to start a training regimen and stick to it without procrastination. There are plenty of good sources that you can find on the internet that will help you get in shape – and in the shortest amount of time. I’d recommend a good 20-30 page ebook that cuts to the point and tells you exactly how to get in shape.

Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

Your Strength

As you age, you lose whole “motor units” – sets of muscles and nerves that work together to make your body go. For example, between ages 30 and 70, it’s been estimated, people typically experience a 20% decrease in the number of motor units in the thigh.

Aging also brings a decline in “fast-twitch” muscle fibres – the kind you use to lift heavy objects or to do high-intensity, sprint-type activities. This slows you down and partially accounts for age-related loss of strength.

But a decline in muscle strength and size is not inevitable. Landmark research at Tufts in the 1980s debunked the conventional wisdom that age somehow decreases the ability of muscles to benefit and get bigger fromstrength training, such as weight lifting. So don’t think that you’re “too old” forstrength training. The fact is that you can regain muscle mass and strength, no matter what your age, 18 or 80, or what shape you’re in now.
